Women leaders threaten to block referendum over gender bill – KBC

Women leaders are threatening to block any plans for a referendum until the two thirds gender bill is passed.

The legislators are mobilizing women to vote for their fellow women during elections to boost their numbers in parliament as statistics show there are a large number of registered women voters.

Efforts by the leader of majority  in National assembly  Adan Duale to  push for the passage of the  Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2018 flopped for the fourth time on Wednesday after parliament failed to achieve the constitutional threshold of 233 members.

Only 174 members were present in parliament during the exercise.

Meanwhile, the reorganization of the Cabinet continues to spark reactions with Kitui Senator now demanding the sacking of all Cabinet Secretaries adversely linked to graft.

The senator wants the head of state sack all cabinet secretaries in his government that have been implicated in wanton looting of public resources.

This comes a day after Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was dropped from Cabinet alongside the Principal Secretary for information Fatuma Hirsi.

Wambua is challenging the government to step up war on graft, urging the ethics and anti corruption commission to cast its net wider across counties where he alleges colossal sums of public funds are been siphoned.

The senator also invited the anti graft body to his county, to help unearth the mystery surrounding construction of Umaa Dam which has stalled for many years.

He called for action against anyone who might have been involved in embezzling funds meant for the project.
