Xiaomi has announced the launch of its latest entry-level smartphone, the Redmi 12C, in Kenya.
The device, which was announced at the end of 2022, is available for purchase across the country through Xiaomi brand shops and other retail partners as well as online, through the brand’s Jumia shop.
The Redmi 12C packs a 6.7-inch HD+ display, a 50-megapixel main camera at the back that is assisted by an auxiliary lens, a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a choice of either 3 and/or 4 GB memory that is paired to a trio of storage options available: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Xiaomi is offering all three storage options in the country and, as we can see below, it is the base configuration that goes for the Kshs 14,000 starting price.
The storage options are expandable all the way to a gigabyte.
The device has a 5,000mAh battery that has (eyes roll) 10W “fast charging”.
Connectivity options range from the impressive (it has NFC and the 3.5mm headphone jack lives on) to the annoying (a micro USB port).
The fingerprint sensor, as can be seen above, is mounted right next to the back camera module.
The Redmi 12C comes in four colours: Graphite Gray, Ocean Blue, Mint Green and Lavender Purple.
Pricing for the device is as follows:
- 3GB + 32GB variant – Kshs 13,999
- 3GB + 64GB variant – Kshs 14,999, and,
- 4GB + 128GB variant – Kshs 17,299
