Since the Xiaomi Pad 5 and the Pad 5 Pro were launched back in 2021 by the Chinese company, it has taken a considerably long time before the next entrants to the series have been announced. However, we still got new tablets from Xiaomi, the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 which is basically a variant of the older Pad 5 Pro with a different RAM/storage configuration and the Redmi Pad a more budget-oriented option.

At long last, a new leak on Weibo thanks to Digital Chat Station indicates that Xiaomi is finally getting a move on, and is planning to release two tablets, the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro in Q2 of this year.

The two tablets will have the same 11-inch display panel, capable of a native resolution of 2880 x 1800. Depending on the variant you get, there will be options for 120 Hz or 144 Hz refresh rate. The displays will support both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ which is a welcome for big-screen devices where consuming media like Netflix and the like will probably take centre stage.

Interestingly, Digital Chat Station mentions the Xiaomi Pad 6 will be powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset, which is the same chipset that the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro debuted with two years ago. The Pro version, however, will get the revised Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset from TSMC.

Taking a look at memory and storage, different variants are expected here as is the norm nowadays, with the maximum RAM and internal storage available topping out at 12 GB and 512 GB respectively.

Battery capacity information and camera specifications are not yet available at the moment, nor even information regarding whether Xiaomi will offer a 5G version of the tablets.  The Pad 5 Pro had an 8600 mAh battery capable of 67 W fast charging, we might see something similar for the Pad 6 with the Pad 6 Pro getting faster charging speeds at around 120 W or thereabouts.

Finally, with a rumoured release window of June 2023 (end of Q2), it is only a matter of time before we start receiving official information from Xiaomi regarding the new series, as the tablet renaissance in the market which started in 2022 continues to take shape.
