Benik Afobe and his family are currently mourning the death of their two-year-old daughter Amora, who passed on Friday, November 29.
Amora was quickly rushed to the hospital after developing severe infections but all efforts by doctors could not save her life.
The 26-year-old, who is currently on a season-long loan with Bristol City from Stoke City said his family were devastated and heartbroken.
He released a statement on Sunday, December 1, saying: “Amora was taken to hospital for treatment after unexpectedly developing a severe infection.
“Unfortunately she then suffered a number of serious complications and, despite doctors doing absolutely everything that they could, Amora passed away peacefully with the love of her family by her side.
“The entire family have been left totally devastated and heartbroken, and would like to ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time,” the statement continued.
Afobe is currently nursing a knee injury he sustained in September and could be out for the rest of the season.
Bristol City’s 5-2 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Championship was dedicated to the striker as other Premier League stars also sent their condolences on social media.
