Hotel employees are set to get an 18 percent salary increment after the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions and Hospital workers signed a Collective Bargain Agreement with the Kenya Hotel Keepers Association.
KUDHEIA’s National Chairman Joseph Keyua says the CBA has also instituted an alternative dispute mechanism to reduce industrial action that may further hurt the country’s tourism sector.
With the country’s tourism sector reeling from effects of terrorism attacks that has led to frequent travel alerts by different countries the hotel workers union KUDHEHIA says there is a need for an alternative dispute mechanism to protect the sector from further loses.
To this end, the union has signed a collective bargaining agreement with the Hotelkeepers association that will see the joint industrial council and the coast dispute committee investigate and arbitrate disputes between hotel workers and hotel management.

According to the CBA workers will be given an 18 percent rise in the next two years with the same increment in house allowances.
Hotel workers will also be entitled to a leave and travel allowances and also enrolled on a medical scheme by their employers.
Kudheiha says it hopes the new terms will help in streaming the hospitality industry that contributes close to 10percent to the country’s economy.
