Campaigns for the Kisii county women representative seat have witnessed ugly scenes with one of the aspirants nominated MCA Joyce Ombasa complaining of harassment and intimidation from the incumbent Janet Ong’era.
Speaking to the press in Kisii town, the Jubilee nominated MCA who is a staunch supporter of William Ruto said that she and her chief campaigners have been receiving threatening text messages which she has so far reported to the police who are investigating the matter.
Maangi
Among other candidates who have declared interest for the seat are former county women rep Mary Otara, Vicky Onderi, Norah Nyamwamu, Lillian Mogendi all who have been frequenting themselves in public functions.
Ombasa said that one of her chief campaigners Wycliffe Asuga who has been receiving threatening text messages from known political operatives of Janet had his house broken into last week while he was in Nairobi where they stole over 70 chicken.
“Janet called me and complained as to why I am supporting madam Joyce for the women representative seat to which I told her that that was my constitutional right but aggrieved by my stand, she went on to abuse me with unprintable words,” Asuga said.

Asuga who was Ong’era’s chief campaigner during the last general elections differed with her after she allegedly started giving false pledges the worst being a fake cheque of Sh70,000 to Marani Pentecostal Assemblies of God church and failure to buy three machines for a car wash projects at Nyakeiri, Kegogi, and Nyagesenda youth groups.
But a determined Ombasa vowed to forge ahead with her campaigns to ensure that Ong’era accounts for the affirmative action kitty, youth and women funds, rescue centre funds, money for the disabled and bursary allocations.
Ombasa accused the women rep of contributing towards the increase of beggars in the county because she has failed to handle her docket well and promised to end prostitution in the region if she is elected to the seat.
Recently, Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi was forced to hide in a Nairobi hotel for days with a lady after his security was withdrawn ahead of BBI meeting in Kissi town. Maangi is allied to Ruto’s camp.
