During 2017 ODM party nominations for Mombasa county women rep battle, Sadaf Deen was one of the aspirants.
Her entry into the race surprised many voters at the Coastal county. She was spotted with Governor Ali Hassan Joho during nominations campaigns and even it was speculated that she was Joho’s favourite candidate for the seat.
Weekly Citizen has now established that Deen was not only favoured by the Joho family, including the brother Abubakar Joho (Abu) but Coastal tycoons engaged in underworld business deals among them, controversial tycoon Ali Punjani.
We have gone further to trace Deen’s family background. Her parents are Zubeir Deen and Shama Deen. The two were arrested on criminal charges relating to a human trafficking syndicate. The girls who controversially landed in the country were Indian and Nepalese.
Surprisingly, whereas the Nepalege girls were rearrested after court production, their Indian counterparts were flown back to India, their original home at the influence of powerful business tycoons.
Our investigations have established that Deen family is allegedly engaged in business of mujra and prostitution. They organise visits to Kenya for foreign stripper girls of Indian and Nepalese origin for Mombasa based tycoons, it is claimed.
The mujra girls are then booked at apartments located in upmarket posh Nyali estate. They also perform at mujra clubs Rangeela, Sargam, Hut and Sitara owned by Punjani.
What is mujra? It is a form of dance entertaining so called royalties. The dance is seductive and performed by ladies half nude. It has been turned into commercial trade with performers materialising the fantasies of the male audience. They do everything their wives would not.
While on stage, they shout back at the audience, hurl dirty jokes while dancing with sexy songs laden with sexual innuendo.
In Kenya, apart from Mombsa, mujra clubs are also found in Nairobi. In Kisumu, the prostitutes are invited to perform in upmarket residential areas with no club available. Relatives of Mukesh Gohil, based in Kisumu being key players.
Weekly Citizen has information that the mujra industry is growing as it is targeting lucrative Asian tycoons who fight to outdo each other by booking and having sex with the best dancer of course, after parting with millions of shillings.
The teenage dancers are imported into the country from India, Nepal and Pakistan to service sex hungry Asian and Arab tycoons in the now multi-million shillings sex industry.
We have established that whereas they are invited to perform at music concerts, it is just to conceal really issues – that is prostitution.
In Kenya, promoters earn as much as Sh10 million a night with girls also gyrating all the way to bank. To hide from suspecting wives, the promoters advertise by word of mouth or at times by discreet posters on WhatsApp groups.
The girls will ask for between Sh10,000 to Sh20, 000 for a personal dance and then about Sh100,000 to Sh800,000 for a personal dance and more for private sex arrangements called other services. It is said, if a particular dancer performs to a client in private, one pays generously.
The promoter with the help of corrupt migration officer in Kenya smuggle them into the country, organise for food and accommodation with allowances agreed upon.
While still cabinet secretary Sports and Culture, Mohammed Echesa found himself in mujra storm. The owners of Balle Balle club in Parklands, Shaikh Furqan Hussein and Karan Ekdum, who are nationalised Kenyans with Pakistan roots had invited eight girls to perform at the club. They were arrested and deported.
Sources reveal that Tony Shanghani was key in helping the Balle Balle directors smuggle the dancers into Kenya together with the Deen family. Apart from Tony Shaghani, Ali Punjani also allegedly plays a key role in the illicit sex trade.
In fact due to his mujra association, Ali Punjani’s marriage has been blamed on the industry. When the police invaded Punjani Nyali house in August last year, a one Karki Sushmi Ja, a 24-year-old Nepalese was arrested together with two men. One was a Nepalese man Shiva Prasad Bashyal who according to police records, he was said to be Sushmi’s cousin. Another was Indian national Ram Manoj. Shushmi Ja is Punjani wife. Her Nepalese link has put her as coordinator between Punjani allies in the business world and girls in the dance industry.
Sadafaf Deen is said to have enjoyed good moments with almost every nocturnal loving Coast tycoon, including Punjani.
She was also involved in the bitter drugs wars between Punjani and Akasha family members. Shaghani was visited by Sadaf Deen in hospital after being admitted in gunfights to protect drug market territories and secure backstreet loading. The fifth was at a Mombasa club. Baktash Akasha and his brother Ibrahim Akasha have been jailed in America over drugs. The only brother who was known in public but has seen gone under is Tinte Akasha.
Punjani was on police radar and escaped to India last year only to come back in Kenya secretly at the intervention of Governor Joho.
Who is Sadaaf Deen? Those who know her well say, she is well linked in the Coastal town of Mombasa unto underworld tycoons. She says to be a fashionista and a model behind a number of entertainment outfits. At 20 years, the tycoons wanted her to join politics as women rep to protect them in parliament.
The fifth in a family of six, she was born in Nairobi and landed in India for studies where she got interest in sex industry. She has links in London Mujra clubs where she studies Business Administration.
During ODM nominations, Sadaf Dee was defeated by Asha Mohammed Hussein, current women rep also popularly known as Ashu. By then, Ashu was nominated MCA Mombasa county, Ashu got 17,000 votes, Sadaf Deen returned 8,778 with Ms Hamis Zaja coming third with 3,590.
Afterwards, the tycoons pushed for her nomination to parliament via ODM but the move hit the rocks.
